You may remember them from the SOPA incident, they were “in the interest of game publishers,” of course they were. And now they are saying the same thing. Basically they want to label video game emulation as hacking, at first thought I asked myself what about games on platforms such as virtual console? Well they are seeking to grant “legal protection,” law exemptions for copyright holders. At first glance you might think it’s good to cut down piracy, but ask yourself this, lets say 20 years down the line who would be the copyright holder for old ms dos games? I sure as heck don’t know, and thanks to the esa those games will be erased just like text on books in a book burning.
